John "Jack" R. Bates, 68, of Brownstown, passed away on Monday, April 21, 2014, at the Ephrata Community Hospital.

Born in Lancaster, the son of the late John and Mary A. (Truitt) Bates and was the husband of Karen L. (Ranck) Bates with whom he shared 38 years of marriage.

Jack worked for Allied Surgical Supply delivering medical equipment and later retired from the Manheim Auto Auction. He was a member of the Amateur Trap Shooting Assoc., Manheim Sportsman’s Club and he enjoyed old Studebakers, hot rods and motorcycles.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a brother, Rodney G., husband of Lois Bates of Manheim.

Services will be private at the convenience of the family.
