Ruth Arlene Shue Weber, 86, left this earth on Tuesday morning, August 19, while at home.

Ruth was born in 1928, the daughter of Norman and Elizabeth Neff Shue.

She spent her childhood in Lebanon, Pa., and was a member of the first graduating class of Lancaster Mennonite School. She attended Goshen College and Eastern Mennonite College, where she met her future husband, Elvin Weber. Before finishing college, Ruth also volunteered with Mennonite Central Committee, working with migrant laborers in Utica, N.Y. After marriage in 1953, Ruth joined Elvin in working at Fairfield State Hospital in Newtown, Conn., where they spent several years in I-W service. She was a prolific letter-writer and also had quite a green thumb; the house was always filled with plants and the flowers from her gardens. Over the years, Ruth devoted countless hours to community service activities through the women’s group at James Street Mennonite Church.

She is survived by Elvin, daughters Carol Peachey (married to Frank Peachey) and Cheryl Weber (married to Jay Keener), granddaughters Madeline Keener and Elinor Keener, and a sister, Dorothy Geigley.

Ruth was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Shue, and sister, Betty Strickler.

We will miss her sweetness, sense of humor, and mischief, but we are enriched by her life.

A memorial service will be held at James Street Mennonite Church on Thursday, August 28, at 6 p.m., with visitation beginning at 5 p.m., and a reception following the service.
