Obituary for LeRoy B. Schannauer

LeRoy B. Schannauer, 85, of Sinking Spring, passed away on Saturday, October 25, 2014, at his residence.

He was born in West Cocalico Township to the late Irvin and Mamie (Bard) Schannauer and was the husband of Betty Mae (Koenig) Schannauer with whom he shared 60 years of marriage, recently celebrated on September 25.

LeRoy was a member of Christ Yocum's Lutheran Church, Reading. He served his country in the US Army during the Korean War. He was the owner/operator of LeRoy Schannauer Plumbing and Heating. He was a member of the Reading Suburban Plumbing and Heating and Cooling Contractors, Rough and Tumble Engineers Historical Steam Engine Association, William's Grove Steam Engine Assoc., Reading Master Plumbers Assoc., Berks County Plumbing Apprenticeship Committee, Gouglersville Volunteer Fire Company and the Gouglersville Grange. He enjoyed spending time at his cabin, along with watching his children and grandchildren participate in activities and celebrations. He also enjoyed operating, and collecting steam tractors and gas engines.

In addition to his wife, he is survived his two daughters; Diane (Boas), wife of James Haller of Denver, Karen Richie of Menomonee Falls, WI, and two sons, LeRoy, Jr., husband of Kristine Schannauer of Sinking Spring, Steve, husband of Martina Schannauer of Whitehall; 9 grandchildren, Matthew J., Jonathan C., and Joshua W. Richie, Clayton, Jacob, Isaac, Wyatt, Sarah and Rachel Schannauer; 1 great-granddaughter, Charlotte Richie; 2 brothers, Donald, husband of Nancy Schannauer, Irvin, husband of Margaret Schannauer; 3 sisters, Ella Shirk, Shirley, wife of John Showalter, Anna Adams and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 4 brothers, Henry B., Harvey B., Ralph B. and John B., Schannauer and a sister, Arlene Miller.

A viewing will be held on Wednesday, October 29, 2014, from 9:30 to 11 a.m., at the Roseboro Stradling Funeral Home, 533 Walnut Street, Denver, followed by his funeral service at 11 a.m., with Pastor James Miller officiating. Interment will take place in the Wyomissing Cemetery, located in Gouglersville with full military honors accorded.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Griswold Home Care Services who were so kind to LeRoy while they cared for him.
