Born June 13, 1942, in Pottstown, he was the son of the late George John and June E. (Levengood) Motto.

While living in Montgomery County, Dave held various positions of church offices, volunteered with Meals on Wheels and Project Outreach. Dave was a former member of Vincent Mennonite Church, Spring City and currently a member of Village Chapel Mennonite Church, New Holland.

In the 1970’s, Dave and Ferne assisted in the sponsorship and resettlement of Vietnamese refugees to the United States.
