Obituary for J. Willis Pannebecker

J. Willis Pannebecker, 90, of Stevens, passed away on Sunday, March 22, 2015, at Ephrata Community Hospital.

Bill was born in Schoeneck to the late James and Lizzy (Harting) Pannebecker and was the husband of Faye (Boyer) Pannebecker, with whom he shared 55 years of marriage.

He was a member of the Mellinger's Lutheran Church. He was a life member of the Ephrata VFW, was active in the Schoeneck Fire Co., coached little league, was a Cub Scout Leader for 10 years, and he and Faye taught 3rd - 4th grade Sunday School. He loved gardening, and was an avid fan of the Phillies and Eagles.

He served in the U.S. Army in WWII as a Corporal and was the recipient of the Purple Heart. In the early years, Bill worked as a carpenter. He then worked for Gerber, formerly Moyers, where he retired from working in the maintenance dept.

In addition to his wife, Bill is survived by 2 sons, James S. Pannebecker, husband of Kelly Shay of Baltimore, MD, and Troy W., husband of Stacey (Moyer) Pannebecker of Bristow,VA; 4 grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by 4 sisters, Eva Wanner, Mary Pannebecker, Mae Geibe, and Jane Ammon; and 8 brothers, Clarence, Elmer, Les, Ralph, Paul, Alvin "Bud", Earl, and Landis.

A viewing will be held on Friday, March 27, 2015, from 9:30 am to 11:00 am at Mellinger's Lutheran Church, 80 Gockley Road, Stevens. Funeral services will follow at 11 am, with Rev. Timothy L. Craven officiating. Interment will take place in Mellinger's Lutheran Cemetery.
