Obituary for Ivan Carl Callihan

Ivan Carl  Callihan
Ivan Carl Callihan, 93, of Lancaster, passed away on Sunday, July 26, 2015, at Brethren Village, Lancaster.

He was born in Windber to David Leroy and Lutie Ila (Berkey) Callihan and was the husband of the late Betty Jane (Wolf) Callihan who passed in 2009. They had shared 64 years of marriage.

He was a member of Ephrata Church of the Brethren, where he served as a deacon and on many committees. He served on the Ephrata Borough Council, Ephrata Recreation Center Board of Directors, was an Ephrata Borough Tax Collector, and a Boy Scout Troop 73 Committeeman. He was a member of Ephrata Lodge #655 - F. and A.M., Lancaster Lodge of Perfection 14th Degree, Rajah Temple, Reading Consistory, Ephrata Lions Club, and Ephrata American Legion Post 429. He enjoyed playing golf, fishing, hunting, cards, woodworking, and spending time at his cabin in Bethel Township, Berks County.

Ivan was a 1940 graduate of Ephrata High School. He served in the U.S. Army from June of 1943 until February of 1946 as a Surgical Technician, with the 630th Clearing company, during WWII.

Ivan was employed by WW Moyer Co./Gerber Children's Wear from 1940 to 1981, where he retired from the position of CFO.

Ivan is survived by a daughter, Barbara L., Day of Ephrata, and 2 sons, Joel E., husband of Mary J. Callihan, and Kevin C., husband of Barbara Callihan of Ephrata; 8 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; 5 step-great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Alice Adams of Lititz, and Evelyn Mellinger of Lancaster; and a brother, Robert L. Callihan of Manheim.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by 5 siblings, Glen and Galen Callihan, Mildred Harrison, Ethel Keiper, and Darlene Moore; and a son-in-law, Edwin Day.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, August 6, 2015, from 10:00 to 10:30 am at the Ephrata Church of the Brethren, 201 Crescent Avenue, Ephrata. A Celebration of Life will follow at 10:30 am with Pastor Rob Eshelman officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Ivan's memory, to the Ephrata Church of the Brethren, 201 Crescent Avenue, Ephrata, PA 17522 or to the Brethren Village Benevolent Fund, 3001 Lititz Pike, Lancaster, PA 17606.
