Obituary for Walter M. Hurst

Walter M. Hurst, 75, of Lititz, passed away on Sunday, November 29, 2015, at Wellspan Ephrata Community Hospital, following a brief illness.

He was born in Farmersville to the late Earl D. and Mary (Martin) Hurst and was the husband of Marlene M. (Zimmerman) Hurst, who were married for 52 years.

He was a member of Meadow Valley Mennonite Church (Weaverland Conference). Walter was previously employed as a superintendent for Horst Construction and worked as a farmer until he retired.

In addition to his wife, Walter is survived by 11 children, D. Anthony, husband of Sherry (Good) Hurst of Sinking Spring, Philip A., husband of Kimberly (Musser) Hurst of Seneca Falls, NY, Christina J., wife of Gerald Seibel of Manheim, Kaye Loreen, wife of Darryl Martin of Newmanstown, Sharon S., wife of Curvin Weaver of Harrisonville, N. Arlyn, husband of Delores (Martin) Hurst of Lititz, Stephen A., husband of Rhonda (Hurst) Hurst of Lititz, Joel A., husband of Earla (Brubaker) Hurst of Elliottsburg, Matthew, husband of Karen (Weaver) Hurst of Ephrata, Wendall A. Hurst of Terlingua, TX, Dawn L., wife of Cleason Sensenig of Kirkwood; 70 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; 8 siblings, Richard M, husband of Bertha (Nolt) Hurst of Ephrata, Earl M., husband of Kathryn (Eberly) Hurst of Brownstown, George M., husband of Mary (Martin) Hurst of Lititz, Grace M., wife of Harold R. Kurtz of Manheim, Wilmer M., husband of Kay (Stoltzfus) Hurst of Lititz, Mary Ethel, wife of Jeryl Hollinger of Kalispell, MT, Curvin M., husband of Kathy (Ressler) Hurst of Lititz, Victor M., husband of Beverly (Ginder) Hurst of Newmanstown; sister-in-law, Grace Hurst, wife of Elmer Martin of Lititz.

He was preceded in death by 6 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; brother, Raymond Hurst.

A viewing will be held on Thursday, December 3, 2015, from 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 8 pm, at the Midway Reception Center, 210 E. Lexington Rd., Lititz. Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 4, 2015, at 9 am, at the Midway Reception Center, with further services at 9:30 am, from the Meadow Valley Mennonite Church, 200 Meadow Valley Rd., Ephrata, with Bishop Lester B. Martin, Ministers Elam Ray Martin, Gary L. Zimmerman and Harlan W. Martin officiating. Interment will take place in the adjoining church cemetery.
