Obituary for Margaret M. Showalter

Margaret M.  Showalter
Margaret M. "Peggy" Showalter, 85, of Reinholds, passed away on Wednesday, May 25, 2016, at Ephrata Manor.

She was born in Lower Heidelburg Township to the late Walter and Catharine (Long) Helm and was the wife of E. Luke Showalter, with whom she shared more than 60 years of marriage.

Peggy graduated from Robesonia High School and then went on to McCann's School of Business.

She formerly worked for Farr's Nursery and then was the secretary for Denver Borough for 28 years. She enjoyed volunteering and received numerous awards for her work through various civic organizations.

In addition to her job she was a homemaker and raised 3 children. She loved spending time with family and friends, and enjoyed baking, canning, crocheting and gardening.

In addition to her husband Peggy is survived by 3 children, Kirk Showalter of Reinholds, Neal Showalter of Reinholds, and Jill Showalter of Reamstown; a brother, Gerald, husband of Sue Helm of Stouchsburg, and a sister, Delores, wife of Harold Stieff of Robesonia and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Shirley Wartzenluft and Ruth Shepler.

A viewing will be held on Thursday, June 2, 2016, from 6 to 8 pm at Roseboro Stradling Funeral Home, 533 Walnut St ., Denver. An additional viewing will be held on Friday, June 3rd, from 9 to 10 am at the Mellinger's Lutheran Church, 80 Gockley Road, Stevens. Funeral services will follow at 10 am, with Rev. Timothy L. Craven officiating. Interment will take place in the Pleasant View Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Peggy's memory may be made to Mellinger's Lutheran Church, 80 Gockley Road, Stevens, PA 17578 or to the Denver Fair Committee, Inc., P.O. Box 207, Denver, PA 17517.
