Obituary for Earl H. Hertzog

Earl H.  Hertzog
Earl H. Hertzog, 87, of Manheim, formerly of Denver and Ephrata, passed away on Wednesday, July 20, 2016, at home.

He was born in Lebanon to the late Marvin and Mary (Horst) Hertzog and was the husband of Kathryn W. (Knauer) Hertzog, with whom he shared 64 years of marriage in June.

Earl was a member of Mellinger's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Stevens, and the Blue Lodge F and A.M. He was an active member of the Denver Lions Club, helped start the Lions Club food stand, and continued serving until last year. He enjoyed gardening, splitting wood, and making blankets out of leftover quilt patches, to give to the homeless.

He was a U.S. Army Veteran, having served during the Korean War.

Earl was a carpenter by trade, and the owner of E.H. Hertzog, Inc./Hertzog Construction.

In addition to his wife, Earl is survived by a son, Barry Hertzog of Fivepointville, a daughter, Wanda Hertzog-Grant and husband Mike of Denver, 3 grandchildren, Joanna Hertzog Betkoski and husband Brett; Amy Hough and husband Ryan; and Matthew Grant and wife Darlene; a great-granddaughter, Ella Grace Grant; and a sister, Lucille Lorah.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, July 23, 2016, from 10:30 to 11:00 am, followed by a Celebration of Life at 11:00 am, at the Pleasant View Retirement Community, Hoffer Auditorium, 544 N. Penryn Rd., Manheim. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.
