Obituary for Richard L. Weaver

Richard L. Weaver
Richard Lamar “Dick” Weaver, 78, of Stevens, went home to be with the Lord on January 13th, 2017 at home, after a lengthy illness. Born on the family farm in Blue Ball to the late Hershey and Lillian (Sensenig) Weaver on October 25, 1938, Dick lived his entire life in Lancaster County. He is survived by his wife, Mary Lou (Usner), with whom he celebrated 58 years of marriage last April.
Dick was a member of Grace Point Church of the Nazarene. He was a truck driver for over 30 years, as well as a part-time member of the Clay Twp. police force. Dick was a long-time volunteer of the Durlach/Mt. Airy Fire Co., and held the position of president for a period.
As a child, Dick’s hobbies included playing baseball, roller skating, playing “nickel-a-game” arcade games, and cars, particularly Chevy. He maintained many of these hobbies throughout his life. In later years, he received great joy from attending the sporting events, concerts, and other activities of his grandchildren. An avid outdoorsman, Dick enjoyed going to the cabin with friends, hunting, and spending mornings fishing on his boat. Throughout his life, he travelled often, visiting many of the 50 states, including regular trips to Nevada, hunting trips to Colorado and Wyoming, and a 3-week excursion to Alaska in 2013. He enjoyed filming these trips using his video camera, which he would then proudly show off to the whole family. Dick was a devoted Philadelphia sports fan, notably the Eagles and Phillies. Dick was very peculiar about how things were done, including, but certainly not limited to, the care of his yard, the temperature of his food, and the setting-up of his snow fence.
In addition to his wife, Dick is survived by his 3 children: Donna, wife of Mike Geesey, of Leola; Jodi, wife of the late Jim Reddig, of Denver; Scott, husband of Kelly (Kline), of Ephrata; 4 grandchildren: Tara Groff, Ryan Thomas, Courtney and Danika Weaver; 3 great-grandchildren: Mason, Owen, and Ethan. The oldest of 5, Dick is also survived by his siblings: Elaine Weaver; Janet, wife of Merv Gingrich; Donald, husband of Jeanette (Heller); Delmar, husband of Linda (Ginder).
The family would like to thank the medical professionals for the love and care offered to Dick over the past year, especially the home-care nurses and doctors from Hospice and Community Care of Lancaster for their care during the past several months.
A visitation will be held on Thursday January 19th, from 5pm-7pm at Grace Point Church of the Nazarene, 110 Durlach Rd, Ephrata, directly followed by a service at 7pm. Interment will be private. Kindly omit flowers. Instead, contributions may be made in Dick’s name to the Durlach/Mt. Airy Fire Co., 880 Durlach Rd, Stevens, PA 17578, or to Grace Point Church.
