Obituary for Jane D. Houser (Shreiner)

Jane D. Houser, 84, of Akron, passed away on Friday, February 17, 2017, at Gardens at Stevens Nursing Home.

She was born in Millport to the late Elmer S. and Grace (Weachter) Shreiner and was the wife of the late Richard R. Houser.

Jane was a homemaker. She enjoyed bird watching, wildlife and visiting the mountains. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and was known for her wacky cake.

Jane is survived by 3 sons, Jeffrey Houser of Lancaster, Barry Houser of Manheim, Jim, husband of Susan (Mentzer) Houser of Akron; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 3 brothers, Elmer S. Shreiner, III of Akron, Charles L. Shreiner of Shiresmantown, Richard L. Shreiner of Mt. Joy and 2 sisters, Gloria Wolf of Lititz, Nancy Fern of Manheim.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by 3 sisters, Miriam Burkholder, Evelyn Cammauf, and Lillian Gochenour.

A viewing will be held on Tuesday, February 21, 2017, from 1 to 2 pm at the Stradling Funeral Home, 30 North Ninth Street, Akron, followed by funeral services at 2 pm with Pastor Tom Weber officiating. Interment will take place in the Millport Union Cemetery.

The family would like to express their thanks to the staff at Gardens at Stevens for the excellent care given to Jane.
