Obituary for Shelva J. Witmer

Shelva J. Witmer
Shelva Jean Witmer, 77, of Denver, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 22, 2017, at home with family by her side.

She was born in Spring Township, Berks County, daughter of the late Clarence Steffy and Katie (Mae) Hiester Steffy and was the wife of Dale L. Witmer, with whom she shared 61 years of marriage on May 5.

Shelva loved gardening, crocheting, cooking, and played a consistent, caring role in helping to raise her eight grandchildren. Shelva was the best at refereeing backyard sporting events, treating skinned knees and making sure her grandchildren finished their lunches. She spent many hours watching her grandchildren excel on athletics fields up and down the East Coast. “Ma” also loved Boston Terriers and was always watching for the elusive hummingbirds.

In addition to her husband, Shelva is survived by 2 sons, Dean Witmer, husband of Beth (Hackman) of Ephrata, and Todd Witmer, husband of Theresa (Mozeliak) of Ephrata; a daughter, Lee Ann Ueberroth of Stevens; eight grandchildren, Erin, Daniel, Richard III, Katie, Kyle, Courtney, Kayla, and Carissa; two great-grandchildren, Ellie and Trey; and a sister, Linda Shaak of Stevens.

The family would like to express gratitude to the many Doctors, Nurses and Staff affiliated with the Reading Hospital but a special thank you to Dr. Cecilia Smith and Dr. David George for their ongoing care and compassion.

A viewing will be held on Thursday, May 25, 2017, from 10 to 11 am at the Roseboro Stradling Funeral Home, 533 Walnut Street, Denver. Funeral services will be follow at 11:00 am, with Pastor Mark Johnson officiating. Interment will take place in the Muddy Creek Cemetery.
