Obituary for Willis W. Horst

Willis W. Horst

Born in Stevens, November 8, 1926, he was the son of the late Ivan S. and Susie L.(Wenger) Horst.
Willis attended Manheim BIC, and was a member of Akron Mennonite Church.
Willis was a builder by trade, working for Martin and Mohler, before becoming self-employed in the late 70’s. He loved his children and took delight in his grandchildren and his great-grandchildren. He was always ready with a story to tell and a smile on his face. He was an avid bowler, golfer, and hunter before his health declined. Willis leaves a legacy of humility, generosity, steadfast faith, and joy in providing for his family.
Surviving are his wife of 8 years, Ethel (Stoppard) Horst; three children Donald (Rebecca) Horst, Jerry (Sue) Horst, and Linda (George) Martin; as well as 11 grandchildren: Nathan, Cicely, Kristin, Mark, Brandi, Danielle, Chad, Valerie, Lindsey, Shawn, and Austin; and 11 great grandchildren. Also surviving is a brother Paul Horst, of Goshen, Indiana.
He was preceded in death by his first wife of 17 years and mother of his children Ruth (High) Horst, his second wife of 40 years, and loving stepmother and grandmother to his children and grandchildren, Esther M. (Gehman) Horst, as well as, three brothers, Leroy D. Horst, Mervin R. Horst, and Ivan R. Horst, and six sisters, Esther M. Diem, J. Irene Witmer, Elva R. Martin, Florence A. Horst, Bertha S. High and Cora E. Hollinger, Grace M. Horst, Elsie Matz, and one grandson, Joshua Horst.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the caring staff at Hospice and Community Care.
A service to celebrate Willis' life will be held Sunday, October 1, 2017 at 4 PM at the Manheim Brethren in Christ Church Chapel, 54 North Penryn Road, Manheim, PA 17545, with Pastor Bill Malone officiating.
