Obituary for Nancy L. Althouse

Nancy L. Althouse
Nancy L. Althouse, born on April 26, 1948, passed away on January 14, 2018. She was the daughter of the late Carl and Hazel (Hoshauer) Mohler.

Nancy was an animal lover all her life. She dreamed of owning a horse and at age 17, with her brother and sister, bought Bucky for $50.00 - he was always called "the best horse ever". She graduated from Meredith Manor School of Horsemanship in West Virginia. Her love of horses continued and included Arabians, which she and her husband Curt had raised and shown.

Dogs were also loved but it was cats that would fill her heart and time. After she and Curt were married, a kitten named Tabby came into their lives. That was the start of many cats, domesticated and feral, needing love and a home. Nancy provided both with open arms.

After graduating from Garden Spot High School, in 1966, she worked at New Holland Machine for many years as a secretary. Her current job was at Wernersville State Hospital, as a medical secretary, for many wonderful doctors.

Nancy and Curt were married on September 22, 1973 and lived their entire lives near Denver, in a house built by Curt and his father, Clyde.

She is survived by her husband, Curt, sister, Bonnie (Randy) Fosnocht, brother, Tim (Susan-Jane) Mohler, and sister, Susie (Ray) Riegel, who was much more like a daughter to her. Also sister-in-law, Mary Mohler, and mother-in-law, Anna Althouse.

She is also survived by nieces, Christy, Lisa, Tiffany, and Janice, and nephews, Nathan, Ted, and Ben. She was "Aunt Nancy" to her great-nieces and great-nephews, Shawn, Ariana, Meara, Raina, Lynea, and Eli; and foster sisters, Felicity Lord and Rose Lucas.

A memorial will be held at 2:00 pm, Saturday, January 20th, at Roseboro Stradling Funeral Home, 533 Walnut St., Denver, with visitation at 1:30 pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice and Community Care, P.O. Box 4125, Lancaster, PA 17604.

In remembrance of Nancy's rescue efforts, feel free to wear any clothing with a "critter" on it.

Arrangements by Roseboro Stradling Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc., Denver.
