Thank goodness for memories, or without them sometimes it feels like we have nothing. To my best recollection it was a saturday afternoon in December 1966 and it was starting to snow pretty good. There we were "the gang" ; Dave and Joyce, Kenny and Jan, myself and Ginny, plus I think Dave Weaver. All of us at the Hilltop Inn. They still had that pool table as you came in the front door off to the right. We were playing partners, and Jim and Marion were rooting for the girls. Losers had to by a round and the draught beer was Piels or Schmidts, or if you prefeered Schmidts or Piels! They didn't do pints back then, only those little 7 ounce curved top glasses. There must have been 6 or 7 glasses lined up in front of Joyce, as she was never a real big beer drinker. Jan and Ginny were getting behind too. So you (Dave), Kenny and myself had to help them out. Kenny tried to convince us all to drive down to Jan's parents place in Virginia right then in that snow. Well Dave and Joyce had more sense as did Weaver. So Jan calls her mom and say's "get out some steaks, we are on the way". Bad idea as the remaining 4 of us had to get a motel on the other side of York as they closed down 83.
This is terrible, Jim and Marion are gone, Kenny is gone, Weaver is gone, and now Joyce. I feel so sad, but thank goodness for memories. Some day far off in another place and time maybe we can finish that pass three pinochle game. Promise to bring a mini tapper.
Love from your cousin
