Kenneth L. Shelly, 72, of Akron, passed away on Saturday, April 23, 2016, at Wellspan Ephrata Community Hospital.

He was born in Akron to the late John and Verda (Hertzog) Shelly and was the husband of Joan A. (Boyer) Shelly, whom were married for 50 yrs.

He was a member of Salem Lutheran Church, Ephrata, belonged to a bowling league, enjoyed watching baseball, football and golf. Kenneth worked as a parts associate for Hunter Peterbuilt Inc., Lancaster for 44 years until his retirement in June of 2009.

In addition to his wife, Kenneth is survived by son, Gregory Scott Shelly of Lancaster; daughter, Debra Sue, wife of Steve Melcher; granddaughter, Elizabeth Nicole Melcher; grandson, Justin Mitchell Melcher; brother, Harold Shelly of Ephrata; 4 sisters, Marion Shelly of Lancaster, Barbara, wife of Bill Burkholder of Ephrata, Allegra, wife of Dick Kohl of Ephrata, Rosa, wife of Jim Barndt of Ephrata.

A viewing will be held on Wednesday, April 27, 2016, from 7 to 8 pm, at the Salem Lutheran Church, 1331 W. Main St., Ephrata. Another viewing will be held on Thursday, April 28, 2016, from 12 to 1 pm, at the Salem Lutheran Church, followed by his funeral service at 1 pm with Pastor Jeffrey Goodman officiating. Interment will take place in the Memory Gardens Memorial Cemetery.

The family requests that memorial contributions in Kenneth's memory may be made to the Salem Lutheran Church, 1331 W. Main St., Ephrata, PA 17522.
