Obituary for Mervin N. Zimmerman

Mervin N.  Zimmerman
Mervin N. Zimmerman, 81, of Lititz passed away on August 26, 2016 at Lancaster General Hospital.

Born in East Earl Twp. he was the son of the late Ivan B. and Ethel (Newswanger) Zimmerman and raised by Irene (Newswanger) Zimmerman. He was the husband of Martha (High) Zimmerman and they celebrated sixty years of marriage on March 17, 2016.

Upon moving to Lititz, he worked for local farmers in Lititz and Lancaster. He then worked for Bob Lutz, oil company before establishing his own plumbing, heating and air conditioning business in 1968. Mervin Zimmerman, Inc./The Bath Barn is located on Rothsville Road in Lititz. Mervin was a long time member at Hinkletown Mennonite Church where he taught adult Sunday school for many years. He also served for many years on the boards of the Pennsylvania Relief Sale, Lancaster Christian School and House of His Creation. His interests included playing golf and watching Phillies games. He loved working in his many flower gardens and is well known for making his famous BBQ chicken.

Surviving in addition to his wife, are 4 children, Mervin Craig, husband of Grace (Kennel) Zimmerman, Philip Kent, husband of Karmen (Yoder) Zimmerman, Bonita Sue, wife of Eugene M. Hoover and Merle Wade, husband of Kimberly (Searfoss) Zimmerman. Mervin was blessed to have 15 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Mervin had 8 siblings, Alta, wife of Donald Mellinger, Lester, husband of Thelma (Good) Zimmerman, I. Ray, husband of Martha (Groff) Zimmerman, Joanne, wife of Paul Zimmerman, G. Mark, husband of Marilyn (Stauffer) Zimmerman, Shirley, wife of Glenn Sauder, Susan, wife of Jonathan Moyer, and Fannie, wife of Loren Ressler.

A viewing will be held on Tuesday, August 30, 2016, from 6 to 8 PM, at the Hinkletown Mennonite Church, 2031 28th Division Highway, Ephrata. An additional viewing will be held on Wednesday, August 31, 2016, from 10 to 11 AM, at the church, followed by funeral services at 11 AM, with Pastor Glenn Sauder officiating.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Merv’s memory to TNT Youth Ministries, 510 Stevens Road, Ephrata PA 17522.
