Obituary for W. Richard Smith ("Schmitty")

W. Richard  Smith ("Schmitty")
W. Richard "Schmitty" Smith, 87, of Leola, passed away on Thursday, October 13, 2016, at Wellspan Ephrata Community Hospital.

He was born in Millway to the late James and Agnes (Martin) Smith and was the husband of Isabella (Getz) Smith with who he shared more than 67 years of marriage.

Richard was a brick mason. He enjoyed bird watching, antiquing, and visiting the mountains. He loved all types of animals especially, dogs and cats.

In addition to his wife, Richard is survived by 3 children, Teresa, wife of David Pratt of Narvon, Nina Wink, companion of Michael Sensenig of Denver, Kent, husband of Kathy Smith of Chestertown, MD; 5 grandchildren, Kelly, husband of Elizabeth (Gardner) Ruth of Baltimore, MD, Eric Witwer, companion of Kim Sculley of Narvon, Ryan, husband of Allison Witwer of Ephrata, Tara Wink, wife of Tyler Winnett of Thorndale, Shane Smith of Chestertown, MD and 5 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Gloria Smith.

A viewing will be held on Monday, October 17, 2016, from 10 to 11 AM at the Stradling Funeral Home, 30 North Ninth Street, Akron followed by funeral services at 11 AM. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.
