Obituary for Earl E. Grant

Earl E. Grant, Jr. 90, of Ephrata, passed away on Saturday, April 12, 2014, at home.

He was born in Ephrata to the late Earl Sr. and Helen (Dundore) Grant.

Earl was a WWII U.S. Army Veteran of the Central European Theatre Campaign, where he served as a medic in the 346th Infantry, 87th Division.

He was a member of the Muddy Creek Lutheran Church in Denver, the church council, and the Muddy Creek Lutheran Cemetery Board.

Earl was very active in doing volunteer work at his church, and was a Merit Badge Counselor for Boy Scouts. He enjoyed doing Painting by Numbers, gardening, sporting events, yard work, and he especially enjoyed attending his 87th Division Reunions. He loved spending time with his family, his ice cream and traveling.

He worked as a foreman for the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, retiring in 1986.

Earl is survived by his wife of 73 years, Veona Arlene (Tothero) Grant, whom he married January 24, 1941; a son, Michael E., husband of Wanda (Hertzog) Grant of Denver; 2 daughters, Sherralynne G. Garman of Stevens, and Karen E., wife of Terry L. Good of Ephrata; 7 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren; and 2 brothers, Robert Grant of Denver, and James, husband of Thelma Grant of Ephrata.

He was preceded in death by 2 great-grandchildren, and a brother, Kenneth Grant.

A viewing will be held on Thursday, April 17, 2014, from 10:00 to 11:00 am at the Roseboro Stradling Funeral Home, 533 Walnut Street, Denver. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 am, with Pastor Tom Weber officiating. Interment will take place in the Muddy Creek Lutheran Cemetery.
